Program Description:
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology  

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) or University of Science and Technology was established in 1991 and became quickly ranked Asia No 1 by the independent regional QS Asain University Rankings for three consecutive years. HKUST strives to set the pace in the scientific, technological and business fields that drive development in today's knowledge economy. HKUST is not only known for the quality and range of its academic programs offered in English for undergraduate and graduate students and top-notch research facilities, but also because of its location. Its 58 acres campus is located in the new territories of Hong Kong. It is wonderfully located away from the busy Center of Hong Kong overlooking the Port Shelter in Tai PO Tsai, while still being and easy access back to the city Center where it is a vibrant, cosmopolitan, and where Chinese traditions coexist with the latest world trends. Chinese art and culture are available alongside western performing and visual arts, including Chinese and Western films, international pop tours, and clubs. Colorful Chinese festivals provide insight into some of the traditions of China's 500-year-old culture.

The university is composed of four school (School of Science (SSCI), School of engineering (SENG), School of Business and Management (SBM), and School of Humanities (SHSS). S&T students can take courses in all four schools, but have to apply to either the School of Engineering or the School of Science for at least 50% of their courses in one of the two schools in order to take courses in the other three schools. Prerequisites: 3.0 GPA and meeting course requirement prerequisite(s), if any, needed for a specific course.
Language of instruction is in English, but students can take a course in Mandarin to explore the language. Students should be aware that the official language in Hong Kong is Cantonese, not Mandarin.

Academic credit 
For each semester of academic work completed abroad, you may earn up to 12 credit hours. Course credit transfers to S&T, but your grades will not appear on your S&T transcript and are not calculated into your grade point average. Courses abroad are recorded as a Pass or Fail and will shows an “ex” on your S&T transcript. Courses you pass will earn your credit hours toward your degree, but will not affect your GPA. Although you will receive credits for successfully completed courses, you must work with your academic advisers to get approval for how the courses you take might fulfill specific degree requirements at S&T.
