Nicaragua- La Mariposa Patio
Our main place of residence will be La Mariposa Spanish Language School and Eco-Hotel. Their website has lots of information that will help you visualize what you will be doing on this trip:

We will stay in the group study center at the outset of our trip, and then students will participate in homestays with local families. This is a fantastic way to really get to know the culture of Nicaragua and to make rapid progress in learning Spanish.

We will participate in daily small group (or even one on one) intensive Spanish language lessons every weekday morning. In the afternoons, we will work on volunteer projects, which may include teaching English to school children, helping out in La Mariposa’s sustainable garden, working with animals, or more. There are many community projects La Mariposa has initiated.

During our 2017 trip, our S&T group helped build a traditional oven! (see photo below) Our volunteer work will be balanced with other activities and weekend excursions.

We will visit the cities of Granada, Managua, and Leon. You’ll have the opportunity to swim in the Laguna de Apoyo, peer into the mouth of a volcano, hike in the rainforest, learn about Nicaraguan history, visit traditional markets, see a folkloric dance show, and more.

We also plan to visit the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (National Engineering University) towards the end of our trip, where you will see what it’s like to be a student in Managua!
